Business Alert: Correction: FTC says more than 4 million people visited a site for an Equifax settlement but didn't provide the number of applicants. An earlier alert incorrectly reported that more than 4 million people had applied for the payments.

The Federal Trade Commission announced Wednesday that more than 4 million people had visited the settlement site in the past week, making it unlikely that they would be paid close to $125 each. The company and agency agreed to set aside only $31 million to reimburse the 147 million people affected by the data breach. An earlier alert incorrectly reported that more than 4 million people have applied for the payments. The FTC has not disclosed how many people have actually applied for monetary settlement. This alert has been corrected.
