Dear Loser*, Aspiring Loser or General Hanger-On:

The parody above -- sing it to "Maria" from "West Side Side" is one The Style Invitational's 20 inking parodies this week on the subject of "modern woes," ranging from opioids and gerrymandering to toilet paper that's hung up backward. Some videos, too. They're fabulous.

No new contest this week; in four weeks we'll have more parodies and perhaps some robbed-of-ink entries from other contests.

In my supplementary column, The Style Conversational, I'll talk about why I think almost all 300 of the songs used for the Week 1339 parodies date from the 20th century, even those submitted by younger Loserbards.
